Defective Space Heaters

Space heaters are a common household appliance, which may be deadly. Space heaters cause approximately 25,000 home fires a year in the US, including 6,000 burn injuries and emergency room visits, according to the Harvard University Environmental Health & Safety group. The National Fire Protection Association says space heaters are involved in 79% of fatal home heating fires.

These heaters, which are sold by reputable stores, are often manufactured in China.  They are not adequately tested, and U.S. testing agencies have actually been defrauded by the manufacturers, marketers and/or sellers of the heaters.

In propane heaters, gas flames may randomly flash out beyond the face of the heater as is indicated in the photo to the left.  If an individual is walking past the heater when the flame flashes out, their clothing can catch on fire.

The photo on the right shows a shirt hanging a few feet from the heater which caught on fire from a flash out flame.

Wolff Ardis, P.C. has represented victims who have been severely burned by space heaters and the families of victims who have died as a result of burns from space heaters.  We have a large inventory of heaters we can use for comparisons and for testing.

If you have sustained an injury, or lost a loved one due to a defective space heater, you may be entitled to reimbursement for any harm and losses. If you feel you have a claim, the attorneys of Wolff Ardis, P.C. would like to talk to you. You may be entitled to compensation. Contact us today for a free, no-obligation consultation.
